We believe it is of the utmost importance to contest the hegemonic agenda that makes the U.S. and its allies only the victims of terror, not terrorists and sponsors of terror. This is a matter of establishing basic truth, but also providing the long- run basis for systemic change that will help solve the problem of "terrorism," however defined.

Peres Declares Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad will be destroyed

"It is necessary to fight Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the P.F.L.P., and Hizbullah with no compromises.
We must see to it that they are finished.
All means are justified.

Polly Toynbee The Guardian and Response

A halt to the bombing would save some of the starving, but an end to the Taliban might help many more

So you support the war? Out there the richest countries on earth are bombing the poorest, thrashing rubble into rubble, sending hell-fire gunships with a kill-zone the size of a football pitch to destroy stone age people. Labour backbenchers grow increasingly uneasy, some vocal, others just wriggling in their seats miserably. On day three air supremacy was grandly proclaimed - as if it were an unexpected triumph. So why all this, people ask; what is the thud and crump of yet more ordnance achieving? Full Article

Who Terrorizes Whom?

By Edward S. Herman and David Peterson ZNet
One of the marks of exceptional hegemonic power is the ability to define words and get issues framed in accord with your own political agenda. This is notorious at this moment in history as regards "terrorism" and "antiterrorism."

Since the September 11 attacks, two truths have been indisputable and universally reported. One is that the hijacker bombings of the World Trade Center and Pentagon were atrocities of a monumental and spectacular scale (and media coverage of that day's events alone may have generated more words and graphic images than any other single event in recent history). Despite its carefully contrived image as the nation's premier crime fighting agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has always functioned primarily as America's political police. This role includes not only the collection of intelligence on the activities of political dissidents and groups, but often times, counterintelligence operations to thwart those activities. The techniques employed are easily recognized by anyone familiar with military psychological operations. The FBI, through the use of the criminal justice system, the postal system, the telephone system and the Internal Revenue Service, enjoys an operational capability surpassing even that of the CIA, which conducts covert actions in foreign countries without having access to those institutions. No-Win Game

By Dione Rocha
No American has ever cried over millions of people who die every day in Third World Countries, victims (directly or indirectly) of American foreign policies designed to keep America on top. They think they are poor victims who have been attacked for no reason and that's why they have been asking so insistently for retaliation. Full Article

Britain writes off 20 million of Pakistan debt

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan has been further rewarded with Britain's announcement that it will write off 20 million pounds in bilateral debt and provide new funding of 105 million pounds over the next two years.

Although small by the standards of relief announced by other coalition partners, it is nearly half Pakistan's total debt with Britain and the remaining 30 million pounds is likely to be scrapped through the Paris Club shortly.

The write-off was announced in Islamabad by British aid minister Clare Short, the latest in a growing list of Western visitors to thank President Pervez Musharraf for his cooperation following the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington. Full Article
