Britain writes off 20 million of Pakistan debt
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan has been further rewarded with Britain's announcement that it will write off 20 million pounds in bilateral debt and provide new funding of 105 million pounds over the next two years.
Although small by the standards of relief announced by other coalition
partners, it is nearly half Pakistan's total debt with Britain and the
remaining 30 million pounds is likely to be scrapped through the Paris Club shortly.
The write-off was announced in Islamabad by British aid minister Clare
Short, the latest in a growing list of Western visitors to thank President Pervez Musharraf for his cooperation following the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington. Full Article
